Sometimes, things can be taxing.
Our little humans can be taxing, our responsibilities can be taxing, and, of course, other people can be taxing, even if they don’t mean to be.
In moments where we feel overwhelmed or burdened, it’s truly the little things that spark joy and can give us a sense of peace. "Spark joy" was coined by Marie Kondo, founder of the beloved Konmari Method. What I love most about that phrase is the intention to surround oneself with only those things that, well, spark joy. :)
Here are my top 5 things that spark so, so much joy:
Well-fitting, comfortable, low maintenance pajama sets
I feel as if I’ve tried a million and a half pajamas from all different types of brands over the years, and nothing has leveled up to these adorable pajamas I got from Target. It’s been about six months since I purchased these, and I’ve washed them so many times. Their fit remains amazing and the quality doesn’t decrease at all. Every night after washing my face, one of my favorite things to do is tossing these pajamas on. Since they are a set, I don’t have to think about matching anything, and I also don’t have to worry about looking like an absolute mess. It truly feels like bedtime when I put these on. They make me so happy!
Diffuser and essential oils
I love candles, but with a naughty toddler running around, I always get anxious about having tons of candles everywhere. A few years ago, I got this diffuser and haven’t looked back. I LOVE these essential oils to put in the diffuser. I’m not an expert at blending scents catered to different needs, but I do love experimenting. This diffuser is amazing quality and we have had it for over two years now. Throughout my pregnancy, diffusing lavendar in this was the best way to get me to sleep! My other favorite scents are peppermint and rosemary.
I suck at drinking water. Honestly, I hate plain water. It almost makes me gag. I’ve always been this way, which is bad news for me because water is so important! Almost every single day for over a year now I drink water with a slice of lemon, a slice of lime, and a sprig of fresh mint in it. I can keep refilling my tumbler with water and the flavor will remain as vibrant as the very first sip. This is the only way I can get water in my system and it truly makes me feel so fresh and amazing. Every day, I look forward to drinking my water. Imagine that! I also really, REALLY love this tumbler because my mommy got it for me. <3
Sugar-free coffee syrups
I’m obsessed with hazlenut. I would justify getting a sugary hazlenut syrup to add to my coffee, though I knew it was a bad idea. I opted for this brand of sugar-free syrups, and my husband and I have been hooked ever since. It doesn’t have that nasty, soapy flavor that a lot of other sugar-free syrups do, and they come in a million flavors. I recently got a pumpkin scone flavor to welcome fall. I like putting this syrup at the base of my mug and letting my coffee drip onto it from the machine. I look forward to picking a flavor for my coffee every morning.
Libby app via my library
Sometimes, when I have a lot on my mind, blasting music doesn’t help like it did back in my teenage days. Now, I’ve found that nourishing my mind with other stimulating content helps so much more to let my thoughts kind of stay focused on something other than drifting off to whatever problems are on my mind. My local library offers audiobooks via an app called Libby. All I need to do is link up my library card into the app, and then I can pick audiobooks from my library’s database instantly. In the past year, I’ve listened to an average of four books a month, which is far more than I was reading before. I’m especially into memoirs, like Becoming by Michelle Obama. Stories like Hillbilly Elegy by JD Vance really got me thinking, and Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman made me literally laugh out loud.
Using these things every single day makes me feel such a sense of calm. I highly encourage you to find your special list of five things that you use every single day that spark joy and make you feel happy.
So much love your way!
